Suspect in Brutal Beating & Robbery of Bartender in Court This Week

Suspect in Brutal Beating & Robbery of Bartender Appears in Court Monday

Green Bay, WI - Anthony Oliver, 54, will appear in Brown County court Monday morning for his final pre-trial hearing. A jury trial is tentatively scheduled to begin Wednesday, June 6.

Oliver was arrested on October 25, 2017, for the brutal beating and armed robbery of a female bartender outside Jekyll & Hyde Bar in the 200 block of S. Broadway. The incident occurred on October 14 of last year at approximately 3:10 am, as the victim was closing up the bar.

Green Bay Police Lieutenant Richard Belanger told WBAY, "She was hit over the head. She had some pretty substantial injuries, ending up getting admitted to the hospital. She needed staples in her head and suffered a brain bleed, some facial injuries, neck injuries - it was a pretty brutal assault."

Officers examined surveillance footage from the bar and other cameras in the neighborhood, which captured almost the entire incident on video. The footage led police to the suspect's vehicle. Forensic evidence found inside the car matches items involved in the incident.

Police believe the motive for the beating and robbery was money. The suspect got away with a small amount of cash. When police found the victim's blood covered purse in a nearby yard, the only thing missing from it was the cash.

Oliver has been charged with two felonies - Armed Robbery & Aggravated Assault along with Resisting and Obstructing an Officer, a misdemeanor offense. He is being held in Columbia Correctional Institute on a $25,000 cash bond.

His previous convictions include Burglary with Dangerous Weapon, multiple convictions of Substantial Battery - Intend Bodily Harm; Operating Motor Vehicle without Owner's Consent; Felon in Possession of Firearm and Disorderly Conduct.
